The Indian equities stayed under selling pressure in late morning deal on Tuesday, tracking weak cues from fellow Asian peers after US stocks ended lower in overnight trade as investors remained vigilant to lingering political risks in Europe after former French Prime Minister Alain Juppe ruled out standing in the country's presidential elections, while Brexit woes and Trump new travel ban also dented market sentiment. Reliance Industries continued gaining streak and rose nearly 2 per cent, hitting fresh 52-week high, after brokerage firm affirmed strong outlook for Mukesh Ambani’s telecom unit Reliance Jio.

At 11:18 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 28992.56, down by 55.63 points or by 0.19 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8944.55, down by 18.9 points or by 0.21 per cent.

The Indian Rupee was trading higher against the greenback on Tuesday amid sustained selling of the dollar by banks and exporters, while fresh fund inflows also supported home currency. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange Market, the local currency was up by 08 paise to USD 66.80 per dollar from a previous close of 66.88 per dollar at 10:42 AM.

During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 29098.17 and intraday low of 28979.09, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8977.85 and intraday low of 8935.8.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 483.50,-1.92%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1019.35,-1.40%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1460.60,-1.02%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 513.35,-0.96%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 677.55,-0.83%), among others.

Meanwhile, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 196.00,+1.14%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 305.70,+1.11%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2495.05,+0.99%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 524.60,+0.53%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 472.70,+0.42%), were among the top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, metal and healthcare stocks were leading the decline, falling as much as 1.37 per cent and 0.42 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2903, shares advanced were 1510 while 1219 shares declined and 173 were unchanged.
