The Indian equities continued to trade higher in late morning deal on Thursday as investors sentiment were lifted by the Cabinet nod to NPA package and new steel policy. Boosted by the development, index heavyweight State Bank of India soared over 2 per cent on hopes that the new non-performing assets (NPA) policy will help in dealing with stressed assets. ICICI Bank hit 52-week high after private sector lender reported a 188 per cent rise in its March quarter (Q4) standalone net profit at Rs 2,025 crore, compared to Rs 702 crore in the year-ago quarter.

At 12:25 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 30032.96, up by 138.16 points or by 0.46 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9326.35, up by 14.4 points or by 0.15 per cent. The Indian Rupee consolidated against the greenback on Thursday amid fund outflows by foreign funds and importers due to strong demand for the American currency. In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 30098.82 and intraday low of 30007.4, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9361.4 and intraday low of 9323.25. The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 295.70,+8.41%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 519.75,+3.80%), State Bank of India (Rs. 294.65,+1.83%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 332.80,+1.60%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 945.50,+1.22%), among others.

On the flip side, Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 438.35,-1.86%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1524.35,-1.11%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 189.00,-1.02%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 437.50,-0.71%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 550.40,-0.70%), were among the top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, bank and consumer durable stocks emerged as top gainers, adding as much as 1.8 per cent and 0.79 per cent, respectively. The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2884, shares advanced were 1432 while 1305 shares declined and 147 were unchanged.
