Indian equities are likely to open flat on Thursday, tracking muted cues from Nifty futures on the Singapore Stock Exchange and mixed trading across global markets. The Japanese market remained closed today on eve of Greenery Day, while other Asian markets traded mixed ahead of Chinese services PMI data. In overnight trade, the Wall Street ended mixed as investors digested outcome of the Fed policy review. In line with expectations, the US Federal Reserve maintained status quo on interest rate, but remained hawkish over rate hike later this year. Back home, muted trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for May delivery, which were trading at 9,335.00, down by 5.00 points or 0.05 per cent, at 10:54 AM Singapore time, also signaled a flat opening for local bourses. Investors will react to earnings of ICICI Bank after the country’s largest private sector lender reported a 189 per cent year-on-year rise in its March quarter (Q4) standalone net profit. Net profit for the quarter was at Rs 2,024.64 crore, against Rs 701.89 crore in the year-ago period, helped by lower provisions. HDFC, MCX, Exide Industries, MRF, Emami, Godrej Properties and Tata Communications will remain in focus as they will unveil March quarter earnings report today. On the economy front, Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved NPA package and new steel policy which will drive sentiment on the Dalal Street.

On Wednesday, the Indian equities ended lower with slim losses as caution prevailed in the market ahead of the fourth quarter earnings report of index heavyweight ICICI Bank and outcome of a two-day policy meeting of the US Federal Reserve. Among the individual stock, Godrej Properties surged nearly 8 per cent after real estate arm of Godrej Industries said it has sold over 1000 apartments across three new project launches - Godrej Origins at The Trees in Mumbai, The Suites at Godrej Golf Links in Greater Noida and Godrej 24 at Hinjawadi, Pune since March 2017. The 30-share barometer SENSEX closed at 29894.8, down by 26.38 points or by 0.09 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 9311.95, down by 1.85 points or by 0.02 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were ICICI Bank Ltd. 22004724.00, State Bank of India 13950914.00, Bank of Baroda 12842041.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 7853965.00, Axis Bank Ltd. 7220815.00. On NSE, total number of shares traded was 128.10 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 25272.96 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 126045 with a total turnover of Rs. 9840.75 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 674482 with a total turnover of Rs. 50015.67 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 3287620 with a total turnover of Rs. 278285.41 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 384605 with a total turnover of Rs. 28990.56 Crore. As on May 03, 2017, the FIIs emerged as net seller in equity segment, but turned net buyer in debt market. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5682.40 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 813.84 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 6015.64 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 253.66 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -333.24 Crore and Rs. 560.18.
